GROWING LEADERS
for association & program committes

Advisory Leadership GEMS is organized around the GEMS model of volunteer development. There are four modules — Generate, Educate, Mobilize, and Sustain. Two of the modules — Generate and Sustain — are educator focused. Each module contains background information, assessment tools, lesson plans with PowerPoint presentations, volunteer handouts or templates, and references.

As educators, your role is to provide learning activities and experiences that will develop the leadership capacity of advisory volunteers by using best practices of volunteer management theory. By strengthening the engagement of volunteers in local advisory committees and motivating them to participate in regional and state advisory committees, you are ensuring the sustainability of Penn State Cooperative Extension.
