Facts about the Northeast Regional
Office
The Northeast Region Administrative Office, serving Carbon, Lackawanna,
Luzerne, Monroe, Pike, Susquehanna, Wayne and Wyoming counties, is housed
at Penn State Wilkes-Barre. Penn State Cooperative Extension and Outreach
is the publicly funded, non-formal educational system of Penn State's
College of Agricultural Sciences. Cooperative Extension and Outreach links
the people of Pennsylvania with the educational and research resources
of the College through our 67 county extension offices. Penn State Cooperative
Extension and Outreach is committed to an educational process which empowers
diverse audiences to use scientific knowledge in making informed individual,
family, business, and public decisions.
The following five major goals shape the development and implementation
of Penn State Cooperative Extension and Outreach educational programs:
- An agricultural system that is highly competitive in the global economy
- A safe and secure food and fiber system
- A healthy, well-nourished population
- An agricultural system which protects natural resources and the environment
Enhanced economic opportunity and quality of life for Americans
These educational efforts are achieved through seminars, workshops, conferences,
short courses, computer-assisted learning, learn-at-home programs, publications
and mass media. Cooperative Extension and Outreach maintains offices in
all 67 Pennsylvania counties as well as 8 regional offices.
