4-H is
a co-educational program available to young people ages 8-18 regardless
of race, sex, creed, religion, color, national origin, or mental
or physical handicap. 4-H serves rural and urban youth and adult
volunteer leaders. The program helps youth develop into responsible,
productive young adults through the development and support of leadership
teams of staff, volunteers, youth and other adults who organize
educational project experiences in community or family settings.
Youth are given opportunities to develop self esteem, self confidence,
and personal management skills through various activities and programs.
Youth can become involved in learning new skills through specific
projects. They have access to the latest informational available
due to the research link with the Penn State University. Youth can
expand their leadership roles and independent thinking skills through
working on committees, assisting in leading a project, and working
with a diversity of youth and adults.
WAYS TO GET INVOLVED:
It only takes five youth and one adult to start a 4-H club. There
are many ways youth can participate in 4-H. 4-H Project Groups provide
the main source of activity for the youth. 4-H members "learn
by doing" an activity which interests them.
